Acceleration service is live: full coverage of five GitHub resource types

Five high-frequency resource types, one domain: downloads, fetch and clone, all accelerated.

Why GitHub acceleration is needed

Direct access to GitHub is often slow or unstable across regions: pages may load while downloads crawl, raw.githubusercontent.com and codeload.github.com may time out, and git clone can stall during receiving objects. The problem is usually not GitHub itself, but fluctuating cross-border links and unstable DNS resolution.

Developers commonly work around this in three ways: running a self-hosted proxy (hardware, maintenance and bandwidth costs), using a browser extension (works only in the browser, useless for CLI and CI), or this site’s approach — prefixing the URL so requests are relayed through a global edge gateway. The third option needs no software installed and works with any HTTP-capable tool.

Supported resource types

The current release covers five high-frequency scenarios:

  • Release assets: installers and binaries attached to GitHub Releases, often large and frequently downloaded
  • Raw files: the exact contents of a single repository file, common for install scripts and config distribution
  • Source archives: zip / tar.gz snapshots of a branch, tag or commit
  • Gists: single- or multi-file snippets hosted on gist.github.com
  • Git Clone: HTTPS repository cloning and fetching (read-only)

Three link formats

The accelerated address accepts three formats — pick whichever fits your workflow:

Format A (prefix the original URL): https://ghclone.com/https://github.com/owner/repo/releases/download/v1.0/app.zip
Format B (/gh/ prefix): https://ghclone.com/gh/github.com/owner/repo/archive/refs/heads/main.zip
Format C (bare hostname): https://ghclone.com/raw.githubusercontent.com/owner/repo/main/README.md

All three are forwarded identically: the gateway recognizes the original GitHub URL and performs a read-only transparent relay. Format A suits rewriting an existing link; Format B fits tools with variable substitution; Format C works well when the domain is a configurable prefix.

Usage boundaries

  • Public resources only: private repositories and login-dependent requests are out of scope
  • Read-only operations only: clone, fetch and download work; push requests are rejected outright
  • No credentials: the Cookie and Authorization request headers are stripped
  • Please respect the GitHub Terms of Service, open source licenses and local laws

Getting started

Open the converter on the home page, paste any GitHub link and get a multi-line accelerated address. For full link formats, tool examples and FAQs, see the documentation.
